I'm appreciating, now, how a favorite writing teacher pointed out to me, during the writing of my first book, that I was enamored of words and it was best to use simpler means to help the reader understand my meaning. It takes maturity to learn that the whole point of writing is communication, and the most powerful communication is simple and clear.
